HEALTH TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION?
You've probably heard of a Hackathon. Well, the Rothberg Catalyzer at Penn is a MakerThon. Instead of the classic Hackathon focus on software, a MakerThon is where students compete to build innovative hardware solutions for healthcare problems!
During this immersive two-day event, cross-disciplinary student teams collaborate on a simple prototyping project to be presented to a panel of judges by the end of the weekend. Clinicians, Engineers, Healthcare Entrepreneurs, etc. will serve as judges and mentors.
Ideate, iterate, and innovate with your team to take an idea from concept to creation.

TRACKS
PARTICIPATE IN ONE OF FOUR TRACKS
Healthcare-related hardware projects based on a problem area or clinical need (open-ended). Can include software component, though optional.
Classic Makerthon
Hardware projects that relate to how clinicians visualize or monitor the brain, understand activities in the brain, or improve and repair brain function. Can include software component, though optional.
Neuro Technologies
"Smart Home" devices or sensors with embedded technology that passively monitor environmental parameters and resident attributes (i.e. sleep quality and activity levels) to maximize wellness. Can include software component, though optional.
Future Healthy Homes
Hardware projects that tackle social issues, i.e. opioid epidemic, dentistry for the poor, public health, etc. Can include software component, though optional.
